Yung Joc: Ripe for Success

It looks like Georgia is a powerhouse of talent, especially when it comes to rap and hip hop. Another popular American rapper – Jasiel Robinson is also from Georgia. He was born on April 2, 1983 and is known to his fans as Yung Joc. You could say Yung Joc was one of those fortunate artists who started on the right foot. His father, a hair care business entrepreneur, taught Yung Joc a few valuable lessons on how to run a business. That’s what he did eventually – set up his own recording company label called Mastermind. It was also his father who gave him his first break in music when he asked Yung Joc to do a jingle for cosmetic giant, Revlon.

After the Revlon stint, Yung Joc decided that his world was going to be hip-hop although he felt no affinity with any particular style until TI came along. At that time he was a huge fan of OutKast. What he wanted was to produce street rap so he went ahead and formed his own company to achieve this goal. He partnered with Russell Spencer and together they produced “It’s Goin Down” – this was just early this year. Atlanta of course loved it and so did Sean Combs whom Spencer had dealt with it in the past. Spencer introduced the group Boyz N da Hood to Coombs. When he heard Yung Joc sing, he knew that he had found his man. From that partnership was born New Joc City, Yung Joc’s smash album.

If you don’t know what Yung Joc’s style is, he has often been described as an artist who belts out lyrics with a certain degree of flair. His beats are contagious. “Its Goin Down”, the successful single embraced by the United States, was in the New Joc City album, and it made it to top 5 of the American charts. It is also the most frequently downloaded song in iTunes. The second single, “I Know You See It” jumped from 143rd place to 17th at present.

So far, Joc enjoys the reputation of being the first artist – from Bad Boy Records – to have recorded a song that made it to the top 40 in two years. Not only does he continue to collaborate with Bad Boy South and Block Entertainment, Yung Joc still runs his Mastermind Music company as its president.
